Learning, education and outreach at The Peace Museum
Did you know that the Peace Museum offers learning packages for schools and community groups and can offer training and continuing professional development for teachers and other professionals?
The Peace Museum’s Education Officer is available to work with children and young people in schools and educational settings, at The Peace Museum and from November 2011 at Bradford’s new state of the art youth facility Culture Fusion, where we will have our Education, Learning and Outreach Base. Provision will be based around what young people and schools have said they want and need, current issues and events and artefacts and materials from the Museum’s collection.
The Peace Museum is delighted to be a Culture Fusion Partner and will have designated space within the building, from which to lead on Peace, Inclusion and Cohesion. We will work with key partners (e.g. the YMCA, Schools Linking Network and Bradford University) to provide a stimulating environment, activities, and educational experiences for pupils in schools, young people, teachers, members of Bradford’s many diverse communities and for visitors to the city from home and abroad.
Wherever appropriate, use of new and emerging technologies (including film making, GPS trails, hand held learning, QR codes, social media and blogs) will be made and projects will be cross curricular, use a variety of teaching styles and creative media, sustainable and suitable for extension in a variety of youth and educational settings.
The Education Officer can offer activities planned to suit individual groups. Themed projects include Sport, Equality and Peace (ideal for 2012), Campaign Make a Difference!, Peace and Community Trails, Blogging for Peace, Talking Walls (the Peace Movement and the First World War).
More general sessions may be arranged on preventing violence and extremism, faith and peace, community cohesion, celebrating difference and promoting equality, interpreting artefacts, international communities in peace and co-operation, we can also arrange workshop sessions…something else? Just ask and we will see what we can do!
