Donate an object

The Peace Museum collects, safeguards and interprets artefacts relating to peace, peace movements, peace makers and peace-making for the benefit of all. By making the museum’s collection accessible, through exhibitions, education and community programmes, we endeavour to demonstrate the importance of this heritage and inspire visitors to consider peace-making as an active process.

Donating objects to the collection:

If you would like to donate to our collections please read the information below and fill out the form at the bottom of the page.

Please provide as much information about the object as possible including a picture, description and the condition of the object. The Peace Museum Team will aim to get back in touch within a month about your request.

For your information:

  • We do not, usually, accept objects that represent a potential hazard. Hazards in collections are anything that can pose a risk to the health of the staff, visitors or the rest of the collection.
  • Hazards include any objects containing asbestos, explosive, flammable, poisonous, potentially carcinogenic or radioactive material.
  • We do not accept objects that pose a threat to our existing collection (e.g. any items that contain pest infestations).
  • We have limited storage space so any large objects or collections that may create storage issues will be assessed before they are accepted.
  • We cannot guarantee that your object will be on permanent display – objects can be viewed by appointment if they are not on display. To book an appointment please email [email protected]
  • We do not, usually, accept objects on long term loan to the museum.

Bringing objects to the museum:

  • Objects should be brought to the museum by appointment only.
  • Please do not send material through the post unless this has been agreed with our curator.
  • When you make an appointment for us to view objects, please only bring the objects you have already discussed with us, and no additional items.
  • We cannot give advice on items for sale or provide valuations. We also cannot authenticate objects.

Unsolicited objects for donation

  • Unsolicited objects for donation are objects that have been left at or posted to one of our sites without prior discussion and agreement with our curator.
  • Unsolicited objects are not accepted
  • The Peace Museum team will do all it can to contact the donors of any unsolicited offers in order for them to collect their objects.
  • However, if objects remain uncollected for three months, or if no contact details are left, absolute ownership will be transferred to The Peace Museum and its trustees who may dispose of objects as it sees fit.

Our Curator and board of trustees will look at the object you wish to donate and take your offer for consideration. The Peace Museum team will make a decision to accept or decline your offer. The decision will be made on the basis of our Collections Development Policy which states what The Peace Museum collects and why. You will be notified of the decision by our curator and, if accepted, collection or deposit of your object will be arranged. You will be asked to sign an Entry Form, legally transferring ownership of the object to The Peace Museum.

If your object is not accepted we will, where possible, direct you to another institution that may be interested.
