I first heard about the Peace Museum when I heard a talk about it; the speaker had brought lots of artefacts from the collection and I was bowled over by them. The banners and posters impressed me by their visual impact and since then I have helped make and carry more banners at peace vigils. He also showed us things that children from Germany had with them when they came to England – just one pair of shoes and one change of clothes in a tiny suitcase.
In the Museum’s collection at the Armouries in Leeds, there are sculptures made in war-torn areas from weapons that have been used and are now discarded. These are a reminder of the healing power of remodelling together.
