2020 Objects of Peace: CND Badges

The Peace Museum has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help build The Peace Museum of the Future. As part of the campaign 20 ambassadors have chosen an object from our collection to talk about its importance in the history of peace and why it is significant to them.

Jude Wright who manages our Choices Education Project, has chosen these CND Badges.

“These are the first Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament badges created by Eric Austen in 1958 and would have been worn at the first CND march at Aldermaston in April 1958. The CND symbol has become iconic all around the world and it continues to tell the story of a campaign that endures and will continue until nuclear weapons are abolished globally.

It’s just another reminder to me of how relevant the museum’s collection is to our lives today and I will continue to use it through our education programme to inspire the future generations of peacemakers. It would be amazing to be able to do this in a new home for this unique collection!”.
