Anniversary of the War Resisters International
The War Resisters International (WRI) was founded on this day (March 16th) in 1921, with a founding declaration that has remained unchanged. “War is a crime against humanity. I am therefore determined not to support any kind of war and to strive for the removal of all kinds of war.”
WRI are a global pacifist and antimilitarist network with over 80 affiliated groups in 40 countries.
The museum holds a number of items about WRI, such as the below leaflet.

If you want to find out more about the WRI and the work they are doing today you can take a look at their website: http://www.wri-irg.org/network/about_wri We have a selection of objects in our collection relating to the WRI, including a wood carving of the symbol of the WRI; two uplifted forearms breaking a rifle in half. The symbol was adopted by the WRI in 1931. By Sarah Bartey
