Over the Fence… to the other side of the world

Our latest exhibition entitled Over the Fence… to the other side of the world explores the untold stories Britain’s nuclear test veterans.

We’re having a special opening event featuring talks from the guest curators Becky Alexis-Martin and Wesley Perriman as well as a chance to look around the exhibition.

Drop in for a look around the brand new exhibition from 5:30pm. Talks start from 6pm, with a chance for Q+A afterwards. Free event, refreshments provided.

Over 20,000 British soldiers witnessed hundreds of atomic bomb tests, with the most notorious being 100 times more powerful than Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Britain tested its first nuclear bomb off the coast of Australia in 1952 and by April 1958, thousands of protesters marched from London to Atomic Weapons Research Establishment (AWRE) Aldermaston in opposition to nuclear bombs.

The Peace Museum is looking over the fence of AWRE to the other side of the world to tell untold stories of soldiers involved and explore the human cost Britain’s involvement in The Cold War and its wider impact on the peace movement.
