Peace OUT – Exhibition

May 23, 201911:01 amSeptember 28, 2023 11:08 am

Opening Thursday 23rd May 2019 at The Peace Museum- current exhibition

The Peace Museum is delighted to announce details of the next exhibition opening in our main galleries.

Peace OUT explores LGBTQ+ activism and peace and will feature newly acquired objects to the museum’s collection. Working with community partners, it will share the stories of those who have peacefully campaigned for LGBTQ+ rights and equality and explore the impact the LGBTQ+ community has had on peacemaking.

This exhibition is part of the Protest! In Our Time exhibition and wider contemporary collecting project, ‘Protesting Now, Collecting for the Future’ which aims to enhance the museum’s collection with contemporary objects telling the stories of peacemakers today. It is also part of our commitment to widen and diversify the stories represented within our collection.

The Peace OUT exhibition is the start of a longer term project to engage with the histories and stories of LGBTQ+ peaceful activism and we are still searching for objects and stories, and looking for organisations to collaborate with. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss this further with staff.

The opening event will be held on Thursday 23rd May from 5.30pm till 8pm, followed by an afterparty at The Brick Box Rooms on Ivegate, Bradford.

A special Saturday opening to coincide with Bradford Pride will take on Saturday 1st June 11am till 3pm.

This exhibition has been made possible with funding granted by Museum Development Yorkshire.
