Choices

Choices Then and Now is a project that includes workshops, CPD and resources designed to enable teachers and youth workers to plan and implement quality Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education (SMSC), through the subjects of the National Curriculum, Citizenship, RE and learning outside the classroom. It has been developed with the support of Bradford Metropolitan District Council.

A Creative Approach to British Values and the Prevent Duty

Choices is an innovative and creative approach to the delivery of the Prevent duty, SMSC, Citizenship, Extremism & Resilience designed for primary, secondary and further education and also for community settings.

Choices has been identified as a model of Best Practice by the Prevent team at the Home Office and the Department for Education & is now being rolled out across the UK.

Workshops for schools, colleges & community groups

Our new touring exhibition and workshop programme has been created to explore themes relating to the choices people make in times of conflict.

During a guided tour of the exhibition, which uses WW1 as a starting point, students are asked to explore what courage means, what influences our decisions, discover those who joined up to serve their country and those who spoke out for peace in times of conflict.

Following the tour, a practical workshop with students brings the topics into the present day, exploring the world today and how we can respond to the threat of extremism.

Designed to be delivered within school and community settings, the programme has been successfully delivered to a wide range of participants, from Key Stages 2 – 4 (Year 5 to 11) through to FE & HE students, as well as community groups, PRU’s, teacher and parent groups.

Choices also has a range of resources for teachers to follow on this work across the curriculum, engaging students in relevant and thought provoking debate.

The materials aim to explore challenging issues, radicalisation & build resilience in a non-threatening and creative way.
